Visitors to the Alsatian Museum, both an art museum and a museum of folklore, are given a fascinating tour of the historic homes of Strasbourg, which are connected by stairs and wooden passageways.

Approximately one thousand artifacts on display bear witness to life in rural Alsace during the 18th and 19th centuries. These artifacts include clothing, furniture, earthenware, toys, religious and secular images, and more.

THINGS TO DO AT ALSATIAN MUSEUM:

  • Peruse the collection that is held within these walls:

There are exhibits of costumes, toys, ceramics, folk art, furniture, and even a miniature synagogue from the 18th century spread out across the twenty-three rooms that make up the museum.

The museum's collection consists of over 50,000 objects displayed in their original interior settings across three timber-framed homes dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries. The homes were constructed during those centuries.

The museum features reproductions of the interiors of buildings located in Alsace's various 'regions,' such as the agricultural plain, the wine region, and the Vosges Mountains, as well as the workshops of local artisans.

  • Pass by several different civilizations and the occupations held by their inhabitants here:

The traditions of Alsatian viticulture and cheesemaking, as well as toys and recreation, domestic and religious life, and popular images, are highlighted in the exhibitions.

In addition, the museum is home to a sizeable collection of relics and artifacts from the Jewish community in Alsace.

  • Gain an understanding of the objectives and goals of the museum by:

The Alsatian Museum (Musée Alsacien) in Strasbourg was established in 1907 to preserve the region's unique cultural heritage. The museum holds more than 5,000 objects from the 14th to the 19th centuries.

The museum is spread across three different timber-framed mansions that date back to the 16th and 17th centuries.

Every room in the museum provides a different perspective on daily life in the Alsace region.

  • The visit is made more exciting and entertaining by periods spent outdoors making observations:

When guests explore the museum, they are given a guided tour of the region's cultural history, beginning with the homes and workshops of medieval Strasbourg and Colmar and ending with the rural farms and vineyards of the Vosges valleys.

The collection features relics from the period, such as household goods, clothing, and toys, in addition to antique pieces of furniture.

Despite this, there are displays on topics such as carpentry, making rope, winemaking, art, and handicrafts.
