In Turkey, drinking the coffee followed by having your fortune told from the leftover coffee grounds is a favorite pastime. The fortune telling from Turkish coffee falls in the category of Tasseography.

Turkish coffee fortune reading is usually done by professionals or friends who know something about it. However, it is advised not to read your own cup; it brings bad luck.

The Process for Turkish Coffee Fortune Telling

Once you are done with your coffee drinking, turn the cup over upside-down on the saucer. The fortune teller than asks you to take the upside-down cup and saucer and rotate it three times clockwise or counterclockwise, loosening the sediment inside. All this must be done with a thought about what you wish to know.
