4.5The Palmetum of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is a project unlike anywhere else. It is situated in a region originally utilized as a landfill; however, since its transformation into a location where people can relax and learn about botany, the region has been given its current usage.
The goal of the site is to transform one of the areas of the island that had deteriorated the most, consisting of an old and enormous abandoned dump located on the outskirts of this city and bordered by water. The transformation was intended to occur in one of the most deteriorated parts of the island.
The Palmetum would not only fulfill the needs of the thriving sector of ornamental palm nurseries on the islands, but it would also offer funds for botanical research on new kinds of palms.
Walking around the world's largest hill, which covers an area of 120,000 square meters and climbs 30 meters above sea level, is one way to see the world without ever having to leave the island of Tenerife.
The botanical gardens are home to a total of 2,000 different species of plant life, 472 of which are different types of palm trees.
It is an exhibition of incredible plant life produced through the combined efforts of a huge number of organizations worldwide (Sydney, Havana, Miami, Santo Domingo, among others).
The Palmetum is the only mountain garden on the coast of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and it gets its name from its location on the island. It provides many vantage points that look out over the ocean, the city, and the Anaga Mountain Range (and, shortly after that, the Biosphere reserve!).
These vantage locations offer some truly breathtaking views of the surrounding area.
The gardens are home to the largest collection of palm trees in Europe. In addition to a profusion of streams, lagoons, and waterfalls, the grounds are also home to an abundance of lagoons.
Within the setting of the natural flora of the region, each palm—and there are many—has been placed with great attention to detail.

A trip to see the baobabs, which have bloomed at this spot every year since 2012, is an important aspect of your trip and one that you should consider. In addition to the palm trees and a variety of other rare species, there is a fig tree that is 15 meters tall that you will want to keep an eye out for.
