Utah State Capitol

The Utah State Capitol, located in Salt Lake City, has remained perched up since its completion in 1916. The building, designed by architect Richard K.A. Kletting houses the Utah State Legislature as well as the Governor's and other state leaders' offices.

The neoclassical style of the Capitol is truly magnificent. The outside of the building is composed of white granite, giving it a regal and powerful aspect. The columns, which are based on those used by the ancient Greeks and Romans, add to the majesty of the structure. The grounds are attractively maintained and include a number of monuments and memorials commemorating the state's history and population.

The majestic rotunda greets you as you enter the Capitol. The dome, which stands 165 feet tall, is covered with magnificent murals depicting Utah's history. The rotunda also houses the House and Senate Chambers, where the state's legislators assemble to conduct business.
