The Old Town (Vieux Nice) of Nice has a liveliness that reminds one of a Matisse painting, from the palm trees lining the Mediterranean Sea to the 16th-century terracotta houses and winding streets.

Other opportunities to appreciate the city's vibrant palette include its famed markets' brilliant blossoms and unusual ice cream flavors.

THINGS TO DO AT OLD PORT:

Admire the beauty of various terrains overlooked by the site:

It is easy to understand why so many people refer to Nice as 'Nice the Beautiful' (or 'Nissa La Bella' in the native Nicois dialect). The city is comprised of various neighborhoods that are pretty lovely. It forms a triangle with Castle Hill to the west, where the Promenade des Anglais ends, and the port to the east.

The shimmering waters of the Mediterranean Sea border its southern side.

Marvel at the concrete beauty that stands parallel to natural beauty:

The narrow streets are lined with tenements, contributing to the high population density. The lower levels of these buildings are jam-packed with shops, restaurants, pubs, art galleries, and museums. Above, you'll find apartments with balconies made of wrought iron and shutters made of wood that have been beautifully painted.

Pay visit to one of the many churches that can be found dotted around the streets of Old Nice:

The Cathedral of Saint Reparata, which can be found adorning the magnificent Place Rossetti, is one of these churches. Saint Reparata is venerated as the city's patron saint, and her body is interred in the cathedral, along with the remains of other martyrs who died in the third century.

This well-known religious building was initially constructed in 1650; however, it has since experienced a great deal of expansion and alteration, the most recent of which occurred in 1949.

Browse the collection at the museum that dates back to old times:

The Lascaris Palace, which also dates back to the 17th century, was formerly the residence of an aristocracy. There are a wide variety of musical instruments stored within the building, some of which include harps, saxophones, violins, and vintage guitars.

Understand the cultural significance and contribution of the Opera House in this area's appraisal:

The Nice Opera house hosts a variety of performances in the art forms of opera, ballet, and classical music. Great artists like Johann Strauss drew dignitaries and members of the aristocracy to their performances, including Napoleon III and Tsar Alexander II of Russia, amongst others.

A new theatre was built on top of the ruins, and Giuseppe Verdi's four-act opera Aida was the first performance there once it was completed.

It has been designated a historic monument in modern times.

Shop to your heart's content and feel it therapeutic:

The lively market along the lively Cours Saleya is Old Nice's most well-known tourist destination.

The National Council has awarded it a one-of-a-kind standing for the Culinary Arts of France.

Florists and horticulturists sell colorful flowers while sheltered from the elements by striped awnings. Visitors who come to enjoy the atmosphere and locals who come to shop for supper ingredients can be seen here.
