4.5Previously a 'private park for the bourgeois,' this park has all the charm of one in London. Amazing trees, including sequoias, service trees, and atlas cedars, have been planted here; some are hundreds of years old. Every plant in Nantes's now-iconic flora can be found in Procé Park.
Procé is a literary character invoked by authors like André Breton, Paul Fort, and Julien Gracq. Dominique Noisette, a French landscape architect, created this 12-hectare park in 1866. It is situated around the Chézine's green coulée and the rocky escarpments of the Bretagne sillon.
The park is a true natural arch of Noe that has welcomed numerous notable trees, including magnolias threatened by residential construction over the years. They serve as witnesses to Nantes' urban history in the twentieth century, and building components and statues have both found a second life here.
The manor house dates back to 1789, and in front of it stands a magnificent Virginia tulip tree that is one of the oldest in France and is comparable in size to those flourishing in the southeast of the United States.
The borders of azalea and camelia in the park are lovely in the springtime.
Various border plants, including dahlias and fuchsias, line the Chézine stream. These plants are especially lovely in the summer.
The four prominent sculptures represent agriculture, forestry, botany, and sculpture at the top end, originally from Paris's former Trocadero.
Children's slides, a merry-go-round, and a tearoom, a paddling pool and playground are located on rue des Dervallières in front of a park.
