Les Halles de Lyon - Paul Bocuse is one of the reasons Lyon is known as France's gastronomic capital. A fantastic selection of the highest quality meals, all collected under one roof.

History:

Lyon's first indoor food market, known as the Presqu'ile, opened in 1859 in a massive iron structure at Place Cordeliers in the city center. One hundred years later, the city chose to construct a new indoor market as a symbol of its commitment to gastronomy.

Les Halles was established in 1971 in the La Part-Dieu neighborhood, close to Lyon's major train station. Extensive renovations were completed in 2004, resulting in the presently 13,000 square meters of food sellers spread across three floors. The last touch was arguably master chef Paul Bocuse's name being added to the market's title, establishing its position as one of the finest venues for food everywhere.

The market:

48 merchants are selling a wide range of produce. Butchers Trolliet and Giroud/Perrier, Maison Victoire, and Maison Claude, Chocolats Richarts and Maison Sève, drinks and spirits by Fac & Spera, fishmongers Maison Pupier and Joanny Durand, bakeries Jocteur, cakes and chocolates from Délices des Sens, and cheesemongers Fromagerie Mons, Mère Richard, and Beillevaire are among the offerings.

Dried meats, poultry, truffles, fruits and vegetables, spices, flowers, and other items are available. There are also several bars and restaurants nearby, such as Chez Léon, Chez Les Gones, and Le Fer à Cheval.

Les Halles is a magnificent indoor food market that offers the freshest vegetables available anywhere. The numerous bars and restaurants make this a great place for sampling Lyon's gastronomical delights, as well as a family outing or a romantic evening.

Les Halles opens at 7 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and while the food vendors close at 7 p.m., the bars and restaurants remain open until 10:30 p.m. On Sundays, everything opens at 7 a.m. and closes at 1 p.m. Restaurants are open till 4:30 p.m. Les Halles is only open on Mondays for oysters.
