The Izmir Archaeology Museum, often referred to as the Izmir Arkeoloji Müzesi, can be situated near the city's Konak Square, immediately across the street from the Ethnography Museum. Its official name is the Izmir Archaeology Museum.


This huge archaeological museum is located on multiple floors and features a variety of display halls, in addition to laboratories, libraries, and meeting spaces.

It has a total floor space that is close to 5000 square meters.

Many of the museum's unique and extensive collection of artifacts date back to the Bronze Age and the Greek and Roman eras.

It is estimated that there are around 1500 artifacts on display at this location. These artifacts come from the ancient city of Smyrna and several other ancient sites in the vicinity, including Ephesus, Pergamon, Miletus, Aphrodisias, and Iasos.

The Archaeological Museum in Izmir is home to an impressive collection of pre-Roman and Roman artifacts discovered during excavations around the museum. These digs were conducted at places including Bergama, Iasos, Bayrakli, and the Agora in Izmir.

The museum grounds are littered with large amphora that dates back to the Hellenistic period, as well as columns and capitals that have been put in and around the gardens.


  • Exhibitions are held here regularly to promote the work of local as well as foreign artists.

There are two exhibition floors, an outdoor display space, labs, a storage room, repair workshops, a conference hall, and offices within the museum. In addition to it, there is open air dipaly.

As part of the 'You Will See What You Can't See' program, the museum gives visitors a chance to learn about a new and significant artifact on the first Saturday of every month.

On the second level, you will see a reproduction of a tomb that is 4,000 years old, in addition to a chronological exhibition of pottery, ceramics, and glass, as well as funerary artifacts. You will find enormous statues made of stone and marble on the floor below.
