Hiking is probably one of the most popular activities to do in Interlaken. The town is surrounded by the imposing and stunning Alps which beckons you to climb to the top for some stunning views. The town and the surrounding area has a plethora of hiking trails to choose from with the most popular hiking trail being the Harder Klum trail.

Hop on the train

Visit Europe’s highest railway station at Mt. Jungfraujoch. The scenic train journey starts from Interlaken and snakes past snow-capped mountains and glaciers. Once you reach the station, you’ll witness stunning snow-white scenery and on clear days, you can even see nearby countries like Italy, France, and Germany.

Explore 6th-century caves

The St. Beatus Cave is an extraordinary site next to the lakes of Interlaken. According to legend, St. Beatus discovered a dragon in the caves and drove it away into Lake Thun. The cave has stunning stalactites and stalagmites giving it an otherworldly look. But, by far the most popular part of the cave tour is the swiss-style chalet perched on top of a waterfall.

Visit the Schynige Platte

The Schynige Platte is a popular picnic spot known for its scenery. Get on the cog train and be transported to the 19th-century. The uniform and interior of the train has hardly changed from when it first started. Once you reach the end of the train journey, you’ll be treated to panoramic views that’ll take your breath away. There’s also an alpine botanical garden with over 600 species of flowers which adds to the beauty of the place.

How to get to Interlaken:

Air– The closest airport to Interlaken is Bern Airport, located 50km away.

Train– Frequent trains go to and fro from Interlaken to Zurich, Geneva, Basel, Bern, and Luzern.

Road– The Autoroute A8 is a 120 km highway from Zurich to Interlaken. There are also numerous private buses which offer tours of the region.
