The Dijon Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of Saint Benignus of Dijon, is a Roman Catholic church devoted to Saint Benignus of Dijon. The cathedral can be found in the town of Dijon, located in the Burgundy region in France.

One can only come here for one of two reasons: to be with the Lord in heaven or to find inner peace. This place is beautiful and picturesque.

THINGS TO DO AT DIJON CATHEDRAL:

Explore the site and learn its history of the site:

The building of the Gothic cathedral, which was dedicated on April 9, 1393, and was constructed between 1280 and 1325, is recognized as a national monument. During the French Revolution, it succeeded the preceding cathedral as the seat of the Diocese of Dijon, which had been secularised then.

Find some peace and admire the beauty of it:

The crypt of Saint Benigne de Dijon is home to one of the earliest Christian sanctuaries that can still be visited in France. This sanctuary can be found beneath the church. The peace that pervades the entire location, which contrasts with the chaos caused by everyday life in the city, feels like a gift.

Uncover the details of the crypt:

The ambulatory opens into a small rectangular chapel to the east, and it was in this chapel that the venerated relics of Saint Benigne, the apostle of Burgundy, were kept.

The impressive great dome to the east of the apse is one of the most notable aspects of his building. It was destroyed during the Revolution, and much of the rubble left over was used to fill in the crypt, which was located on the floor below the ground level.

The crypt has maintained its original design, consisting of an inner circle surrounded by an arcade of eight columns, a ring surrounded by another ring of sixteen columns, and a circular ambulatory located outside of this.
