Dar es Salaam is port city, the largest of Tanzania cities perched on the Indian Ocean coast. The country’s commercial center, it has burgeoned swiftly from a fishing village from 1862 into a cosmopolitan city throbbing with millions of people and a fresh coalescing of modernism with traditions and cultures. The beaches strung along the coastline are exquisitely beautiful, and its harbor is pleasant and pretty, with dhows docked and local houses rebuilt and traditional African dancing and music displayed as the bonafide culture. The markets are bustling with fish and other seafood as well as locals and tourists. The city has been revamped quite elegantly into a buzzing space dotted with skyscrapers and shopping complexes and universities and educational institutes but its colonial history can be traced in the architecture of its buildings which brandish a mix of Swahili, Arab, Indian, German and British styles.
