Laguna Madre is a large lagoon that stretches from the Mexican frontier to Corpus Christi on the southeastern coast of Texas. It is one of the largest hyper-saline lagoons in the world, which simply means that it has a very high salt concentration.

The lagoon is separated from the Gulf of Mexico by a chain of barrier islands, one of which is South Padre Island, which is a famous tourist destination.

On the island, the South Padre Island Birding and Nature Center is a popular destination for bird observers, as over 300 bird species have been recorded in the area.

In addition, the region is home to a number of historic locations and cultural attractions, such as the Port Isabel Lighthouse and the Treasures of the Gulf Museum. Along with learning about the region's rich history and cultural heritage, tourists can also explore the distinct natural beauty of the lagoon and its environs.
