The Corpus Christi Downtown Seawall was built in the early 1940s as a way to protect the city from hurricane waves. The Works Progress Administration, a New Deal organization that provided jobs for people during the Great Depression, funded the project.

The seawall is a popular location for locals and tourists along the downtown waterfront. It offers breathtaking views of Corpus Christi Bay, is more than 1.5 miles long, and plays an essential part in the cultural and economic life of Corpus Christi.

The seawall is a popular location for year-round events and festivals. The Fiesta de la Flor, a celebration of the life and music of Selena, and the Corpus Christi Festival of the Arts, a week-long arts and crafts exhibition, are among the most notable events.

Along the seawall are several water fountains that provide relief from the scorching heat and allow amusing and creative photographic backgrounds.
