Cole Park was given its name in honor of Mayor Richard M. Cole, who led the city throughout the 1940s and served as mayor at that time. The park was established in the 1950s, and ever since then, it has served as a popular destination for people from the neighboring region as well as travelers.

Cole Park is situated on the water's edge of Corpus Christi Bay, and visitors can take in breathtaking panoramas of the bay and the vicinity. The park encompasses an area of more than 43 acres and provides visitors with plenty of attractions.

Hurricane Celia in 1970 severely damaged the park and its surrounding area. However, the city made efforts to reestablish the park, and it continues to attract a lot of visitors. The city of Corpus Christi established a skate park in Cole Park in 2004, and it has since become a popular destination for skateboarders and BMX riders.

Cole Park's association with the arts is an intriguing aspect to keep in mind. Adjacent to the park is the Art Museum of South Texas, which houses a collection of modern and contemporary art.

The park has become a significant location for wildlife conservation efforts in recent years. The park's ponds and wetlands provide a habitat for numerous bird species, and the city has created a birding trail to encourage visitors to observe these birds in their natural settings.
