A wonderful fusion of scenery, architecture, and entertainment can be found at Marina Beach:

This extensive area of golden sand looks out onto the Bay of Bengal, surrounded by a gorgeous blue-green sea. Both locals and visitors appreciate Marina Beach because it offers a cool escape from Chennai's oppressive heat. Come here to take in beautiful sunrises, cool off in the ocean, sample local cuisine, and discover historically significant structures.

For expansive city views, head to the southernmost part of the beach and ascend to the lighthouse's summit.

THINGS TO DO AT MARINA BEACH:

• A lot is going on in the morning and at night for you to participate in:

Go for a stroll on the beach to get away from the hustle and bustle of Chennai's city streets and experience the silky sand between your toes.

Get up early to witness the sun rising over the Bay of Bengal and its alluring light over the city. Watch as fishermen enter the ocean on a paddleboard.

This beach transforms into a fairground in the evening, with many vendors offering relics, homemade exhibits, ethnic jewelry, and food items. The beach comes alive with activity in the late afternoon. There will be numerous cricket matches, children flying kites, fortune tellers, tightrope walkers, and stunt people.

• Explore the beachside boulevard Marina Beach Road (also known as Kamarajar Promenade), which is surrounded by impressive structures and landmarks:

At the beach's northern end, visit the Triumph of Labor statue, the Annadurai Memorial, and the MGR Memorial.

Look for statues of Subramaniya Bharathiyar, a well-known Tamil Nadu poet, and Mahatma Gandhi.

Admire the art and multimedia displays held at the 19th-century Vivekananda House.

On the beach are several ancient structures, including the Chepauk Palace, Senate House, PWD office, Presidency College, and Chennai University.

• Eat local delicacies:

Visit the fish markets and make sure to sample some traditional Indian munchies.

• Explore the neighborhood:

Fort St. George leads south to Marina Beach. The beach is a short stroll from the train stations of Chepauk, Thiruvallikeni, and Light House.

You might wish to visit the neighboring Chennai Citi Centre, a shopping center with many trendy boutiques and a sizable food court, after spending some time at the beach.
