Since it reopened in 2009, the Acropolis Museum in Athens is well visited. You may see artifacts from the ancient Acropolis location in this museum. Just a small drive from the Acropolis is where you'll find this museum. The museum was created by American architect Bernand Tschumi and Greek architect Michalis Photiadis.

About 400 relics from the vicinity of the Acropolis are housed in this museum. The majority of these are statues and Acropolis architecture components. Over a 14500 square meter area, the items are on display. The majority of the statues on the first-floor date from before the Parthenon was built. The upper floor of the museum contains the museum's main attraction. Parthenon sculptures can be seen here. The whole surface of this floor is made of glass, providing a stunning perspective.

Some of the sculptures may still be viewed on the Parthenon on the Acropolis where they originally belonged. In addition, a lot of the sculptures and architectural components have been damaged or lost.

Under the structure are buildings dating from the 4th to the 7th centuries BC. Looking down from the ground floor will allow you to view this. These relics have been kept intact. Additionally, there are statues from the post-Parthenon era in the museum. Examples of them include the statues from the Nike Temple and the Propylaea. Additionally, you may see five of the ancient caryatids that were once in the Erechtheion.

History:

The original museum was the first structure of its kind created particularly as a museum in Greece. After it was finished, it was quickly realized that the building was too tiny to contain the extensive finds of the Acropolis area. When plans for a second museum were first revealed in 1888, they were ultimately shelved, and the option of enlarging the first structure was favored instead. After decades of finding a solution to the size problem, the 1960s and 1970s tourism boom once more demonstrated that the museum was insufficiently sized to accommodate the hordes of tourists eager to see its valuable artifacts.

Why should you visit the Acropolis Museum?

Another distinguishing quality that creates an intriguing combination of contemporary architecture and ancient artifacts is the creative utilization of natural light and outdoor areas. The museum, which is close to the actual Acropolis site and is located at the base of the elevated Acropolis site, provides magnificent views of the Parthenon. After more than a century, the museum provides a successful conclusion to a challenging design brief. The New Acropolis Museum is one of the most important museums from antiquity and is a top-notch institution with enormous dimensions. The New Acropolis Museum, which provides a distinctive window into Greece's past, is a must-see attraction for visitors to this historic city.
