Bridges become frames for looking at the world around us. – Bruce Jackson
Bridges are empowering structures that enable us to tread the paths that are less treaded, explore the places anew. These enigmatic structures stand firm against the test of time and nature. From old aqueducts, basic structures to today’s hi-tech constructions, bridges have come a long way. And then there are a few bridges that just take our breath away with their magnificence and aesthetics. We have rounded up some bridges that not only connect people but are beyond gorgeous.
Pont Alexandre III stands on the majestic river Seine. It is widely regarded as the most ornate and extravagant bridge. Classified as the ‘French Monument Historique,’ the bridge is built in the beaux-arts style and has exuberant nymphs and cherubs.
As opposed to the classic Pont Alexandre III bridge, Sheikh Zayed Bridge is modern yet intricate. It is garnered popularity due to its dramatic lighting. Built by renowned architect Zahid Hadid, the 2700-feet-long bridge makes a statement with its dramatic arches.
The stunning Kintai Bridge is located in Yamaguchi prefecture of Japan and is built across river Nishiki. The original bridge was constructed without using metal nails, and with the perfect fitting of wooden parts, however, the current structure has undergone many modifications since then. The bridge offers breathtaking views of the surrounding and especially during the cherry blossom season.
Another bridge which exemplifies the architectural feats achieved by modern construction techniques. The bridge built in the shape of a human DNA provides a walkway across the Singapore River. The bridge is lit in red and green color in the night denoting two significant groups of components that make the DNA.
This historical bridge over Zayanderud is an epitome of Persian architecture. The intricate carvings look even more spectacular when lit at night.
Dragon bridge over the River Hàn has an astonishing and certainly noteworthy design. The ‘cherry-on-top’ is that the beautiful dragon can breathe fire or water.
This bridge was built in the 1st century AD by the Romans and served as an aqueduct. The grand structure was built in only 5 years is an excellent illustration of the precision Roman engineers achieved with simple technology.
